D.O.C.’s Weapons of Mass Communication

Vincent Moro’s “Weapons of Mass Communication”, part of the imaginary world in which the “Department Of Control” operates, is a creative ongoing project, born in 2012 as a satirical warning to the risk of possible Orwellian drifts in our society. It aims to be a caustic goad for our consciences, a wake up call, shaking us out of the swampy torpor in which our freedoms seem to be drowning. It is meant to be a guerrilla marketing tool to be used in public contexts to draw attention to issues such as: social control, censorship, the progressive erosion of civil rights systematically perpetrated by Governments, the use of Propaganda and mass media terror to manipulate public opinion and indoctrinate the masses, the establishment of pro-forma democratic systems completely emptied of political representative.

Anyone is invited to participate in the project by using the vector graphic assets provided (freely downloadable at the link at the bottom of this page). Anyone who wants to contribute to this creative collaborative project can share, reuse, remix and employ them in various contexts. All the illustrations/designs that compose Vincent Moro’s Weapons of Mass Communication project are in fact released by the author under “Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International license” and are therefore freely available and usable for non-commercial artistic purposes*.

*You must provide the name of the creator and attribution parties, a copyright notice (“from the project Weapons of mass Communication by Vincent Moro“) and, where possible, also provide a link to the material on this page, so that others can learn about the project and participate/support it. You may not use the material for commercial purposes. If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.

As an open and ongoing collaborative project, the released collection of vector graphics assets is subject to changes, extensions and updates over time; please make sure you get the latest, most exhaustive, version by checking this page from time to time and/or keeping in touch via D.O.C.’s official Facebook page or X.

What will you find in the downloadable file? An editable PDF file, containing a series of pages full of basic graphic elements in vector format ready to use as they are (to be printed and cut out on a sheet of adhesive paper, for example) or reworked, through digital or analogue processes, to compose more complex visuals, such as those you see on this page. Just remember that, in order for any Propaganda to be effective, it must have a certain consistency and repetitiveness, which is why we urge you to use only black and white, to maintain a minimalist, bold graphic approach and to use classic sans serif fonts for most text messages such as “Futura” designed by Paul Renner in 1927.

After downloading the graphic resources and letting your imagination run wild with stencils, stickers, posters, flyers, video animations, whatever… Please share your creations online by tagging the Department of Control on social media and using the hashtag #DepartmentOfControlPropaganda. Enjoy!
